Mathilde Govers, LGPC

she/her/hers     mathilde@thrivetherapymd.com

Mathilde is an immigrant from Europe who grew up in Pennsylvania and now resides in Alexandria, Virginia. Mathilde is bilingual, speaking both Dutch and English. She graduated from York College with her undergraduate degree in psychology, and earned her master's degree at Millersville University in clinical psychology.

Mathilde's experience began with working in a residential substance use disorder rehabilitation center. She provided individual therapy, family therapy, art therapy, psychoeducation group therapy, and crisis intervention. Mathilde's most recent experience included working in residential care as well as, specializing in eating and related disorders. There, Mathilde provided Family Based Treatment (FBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Other therapeutic modalities that she has experience in include

Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Trauma Informed Care. Mathilde's favorite therapeutic intervention is CBT, but she also uses an integrative care approach to ensure treatment is as individualized as possible. Mathilde understands that not one single modality can be applied to every person, so she relies on her ability to be flexible and do what is best for each individual. Although her favorite population to work with are adolescents, she has experience and enjoys working with children and adults as well.

In grad school, Mathilde was a part of the Promoting Rigorous & Interdisciplinary Mental Healthcare Education (PRIME) program. In this program, Mathilde completed a treatment of aggressive behavior in children and adolescents training, a cultural competency training, and a tele-behavioral health training. Along with this, she also completed an internship in a high-need and high-demand area with an underserved population. She has become an advocate for people in underserved populations as well as the LGBTQIA+ community.
